About this website
This calculator is intended for use by health professionals. It was originally developed to provide online charts based on the design of the well known Joint British Societies (JBS) Cardiovascular Disease Risk Prediction Charts, developed by The University of Manchester, and published in the British National Formulary (BNF). There are also a number of alternative graphical displays that may be useful in discussing cardiovascular risk. There are a number of additional sections accessible from the menu on the left including local and national guidelines.
Cardiovascular risk scores
Risk scores are for estimating the probability of cardiovascular disease for individuals who have not already developed major atherosclerotic disease. They are an aid to making clinical decisions about how intensively to intervene on lifestyle and whether to use antihypertensive, lipid lowering medication and aspirin.
The calculator can produce risk scores based on the following calculations:
- Framingham
- Joint British Societies (JBS) / British National Formulary (BNF)
